The film The Wizard of Oz was one of the first to be presented in Technicolor in 1939 it has subsequently become an icon. It was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture in 1939. It deservedly has a classic film status.

The fashions and costumes in the film have had a huge impact on our culture and even if you don’t follow fashion closely I am pretty sure you have probably come across Oz costumes at dress up parties and at Halloween.

Today’s challenge is for all of us to create a Dorothy inspired look and then to do the same for at least one other character in the film.

Glinda – The Good Witch of the North (or the South in the book)

The Wicked Witch of the West (she gets a bit of grief but ruby slippers are kind of awesome, I understand her longing)

I have to be honest here and say, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ terrified me as a small child. I remember watching it and choosing, very wisely, to crawl under my Mums blanket when she squished the witch under her house. I have seen it since, but it still gives me the heebie jeebies. Doesn’t mean I won’t respect a classic film though! It brought smiles and hope to many young children and inspired us to remember that sometimes the things that we believe will make us stronger are something we had all along… Although, I still can’t fly, not happy about that one… *sigh*

My set is inspired by Dorothy and her counterparts Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion who were all in the hunt for a heart, a brain and courage. Together they triumph their greatest fears and any outfit that can encourage that, is a good thing!!!

We're off to see the Wizard!

Let’s see if you can guess what outfit matches to who? (It’s should be pretty easy, I hope!)
