As some of you may have noticed, we are getting more and more winter trends hitting out shops. One thing I have noticed an abundance of, is sweaters.  They are all quite ‘50’s-style’ and remind me of something that Peggy from Mad Men might wear. However I am also very aware that the way they were wore in the 50’s is not stylishly acceptable in today’s terms.

Today we are aiming for our wardrobe to be

  • functional
  • stylish
  • affordable

Sweaters are great for all of the above mentioned reasons. They are warm for the winter however you have the option of taking them off (assuming you are wearing something underneath of course), the colours and types they come in for 2012 are super stylish and super flattering AND you can usually get them reasonably priced (see below options).

How should we be styling them in 2012?

Well, there are a few options this winter that I hope means you can utilise your summer wardrobe too!

I love the current shorts and stockings trends. Pull out some summer shorts and style them with your sweater, some opaque tights and some cool desert boots. Finish the look off with a super warm/chunky scarf!

Another option is, as always, Jeans and a white shirt. This definitely gives off a smart casual look that can be used on casual Fridays at work and weekend brunches (also good for sporting matches if anyone should be interested)

Jeans West Striped Sweater $40

Option three is to style with the stunning a-line winter skirts that have hit our shelves for this winter. Try for a simple black/grey/white sweater for the top half and the go wild with a colourful skirt for bottoms! Add some opaque tights, some cute ankle boots and you’ll be laughing.

At the end of the day, you can throw a sweater over your head on the way out the door and you are guaranteed to look top of the style list! Don’t forget to funk them up with chunky bangles and long necklaces!!!

P.S Don’t forget to watch the Oscars on Channel GO for some fashion fixes and fashion faux pas!
