This time next week I’ll be on holiday and I am so excited about having a few days off and also the prospect of packing, yes packing.
I love the challenge of planning my outfits and creating as many looks as possible with as few items as humanly possible. I take it almost as a personal failure if I need any more than carry on luggage for a trip.
So my holiday staples are light, bright summer dresses, lots of flats, cute sandals and the odd pair of thongs. I also make sure I take along my favourite lip gloss, a little make up and sunscreen.
What are your holiday must haves?
Cardigans, flats and Mascara! 😀
I’ll always take a cardigan away on a trip, they are good for cool summer days and for me I don’t get that cold so they are enough to keep my warm in winter.
Mascara – Blonde eyelashes are not awesome. If I don’t wear mascara I not only look deathly but I feel terrible about myself. I just look plain sick without mascara!
Flats are my staple shoe. I love being able to slip them on and rush out the door. I’m not one to fuss over shoelaces of any kind and I just can’t walk in heels!
Lipgloss and mascara are a must, even if I wear nothing else those two things make me feel I like I’ve got my stuff together, even when there is nothing further from the truth!
Im an over packer. I keep getting charged extra fee’s for my luggage for three day weekends back home… My theory when packing? YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN! Maybe a prince will come and sweep you away to a ball. Maybe you will need to fight off ninjas. Maybe you will go to the beach (in the middle of winter)… Maybe you will poo yourself every day of the week and not have access to a washing machine (thus the need for every pair of underwear you have EVER owned)…
I just over pack… Regardless of where I am going or for how long!
The one thing I always make sure I have are trusty jeans (perfect for fighting Ninjas!)
Oh dear. Please stop making my laugh while at work. I get the funniest looks!
(Always pack some spare underwear in your handbag incase your check in luggage goes missing :p)
Spare underware is a good idea, I always throw a pair in my handbag just in case.
I used to take everything I owned when travelling but now that I fly at least 4 or 5 times a year I got sick of the annoyance of going through the bag line. So I pack light because I hate lines and waiting and not because that would be my natural instinct haha.
Essentials for a holiday are a decent pair of walking shoes (usually casual flats), jeans and a nice top, and at least 1 dress. Those should take me just about anywhere. I don’t wear makeup on holidays as a rule, so I don’t pack anything other than my usual cleanser, toner & moisturiser, but I make sure the moisturiser has a high SPF rating as well, just to cover all bases.
And, based on some of our recent travels, I always pack a light jumper or cardigan, and a poncho for rain.
Now Amy has me thinking about all the possible outcomes of what seems like an innocent getaway, I might have to reconsider how I pack! Usually Steve and I share a small bag, and if it’s anywhere up to 4 days, we can get away with taking carryon only – he takes the bag with clothes, and I take my handbag. Anything longer than that and we need to take the small suitcase for the both of our clothes, and we don’t usually have any carry on (except my handbag for glasses, phones, wallet, purse, tickets, snacks, etc).
I agree with regard to all of that, sun screen is a must!
re: re-evaluating your packing – oh no! haha Steve will never forgive us.
It is a good point that you can never really predict what will happen when you are away though so it’s important to pack a few different items to cover all your bases.
i pack money and an empty suitcase. i can buy everything i need wherever i go, and bring it all home in my empty suitcase!
I am the opposite, I tend not to buy anything new when travelling, usually becasue of the baggage limits lol.
My baby sister is a “shop while you holiday” kind of girl though. When we went to Melbourne for new years she went home with a new wardrobe.
Oh except that time I bought 7 pairs of shoes while visiting the family in NSW…..
That was different 😛
haha! That is an awesome idea Riann.
Definitely need to try that one day!
Steve keeps telling me that I could do that when we do Hong Kong next. I keep telling him I don’t have the right body type to shop like a maniac in Hong Kong. Maybe we will meet in the middle, and I will pack just the essentials and update my wardrobe with finds in Honkers!
That sounds like a good approach Maz, I would never be brave enough to leave home without enough clothes to wear, especially when it come to things I am really picky about like underwear.
Even if you’re going for a short trip and don’t have anything planned except relaxing with family or close friends, always take one nice outfit or dress! So many times I have been caught out with nothing nice to wear to a last minute dinner out, and either feel underdressed or need to race out to try and find something to buy. Don’t forget to pack the shoes to go along with the outfit, too, or else you might be stuck wearing a little black dress with your daggy house thongs!
i agree! You need something that you can dress up if the occasion presents itself.
