Bec

Who am I? I’m a manger at a finance company in the thriving metropolis of Perth. I’m in my late (very late) 20’s. I spend most of my free time getting out and about in Perth with my friends; specifically live music and comedy gigs. I also have a habit of going to the movies at least once a week. I love picnics, especially on the beach, which is luckily only a few minutes away from where I live in the northern suburbs.

I would describe my personal style as… Feminine and eclectic, I spent most of my late teens and early 20’s hanging around in jeans and a t-shirt trying to date the guys in the band; now that I’m a bit older I prefer to rock a dress. I spend nine to five, five days a week in an office so I tend to buy things that I can dress down for a picnic, dress up for work and add some bling for fancy occasions, my mantras are versatility and practicality. I tend to stick to the pieces that suit my body type; I don’t so much follow trends as make sure that if this seasons colours/ cuts suit me, I own one of everything in my size.

Style Icon/s – It’s difficult to find designers that tailor to my body shape so while I am a fan of many designers I can usually only wear the scarves from their collections. So my icons tend to people who make clothes that I like the look of rather than personally wear. Alexander McQueen, Sass & Bide and Stella McCartney are currently the people whose work always makes me say wow, I’d wear that. In terms of famous people who throw together a look I have eclectic tastes, I like ladies who can pull off classic sophistication but who dress it down on the weekend people like: Nicole Richie, Scarlet Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Christina Hendricks

Items I can’t live without – Dresses of all colours but my favourites are in red and black predominately and I live in them during summer. Black/ dark pants for work, they never go out of style and I can wear just about anything with them for the ultimate in versatility and practicality. Good underwear I cannot emphasize how much of a difference it makes when you have good support, good underwear is an investment and an absolute must. Ballet flats wear them to the shop, to work or on a date they are my go to shoe for travelling as well.

Favourite places to shop – For clothes it is online primarily, places like Asos Curve, Torrid (for denim), Kiyonna and Igigi are saved in my favourites because their clothes work for me and my body shape consistently. Places like Autograph, Rockmans and City Chic are great for work and casual wear. I love getting great stuff at bargain prices so I check out the Myer and David Jones stock take sales every year. I love shoes but online shopping is fraught with danger for me as I have very large feet and normal size 10s rarely fit unless they are a wide fitting. I prefer to do my shoe shopping in person and I have shoes from literally every store in town. I am also addicted to hand bags and the joy of a handbag is that it always fits, I buy them online, in high end stores, from stalls at fetes and just about everything in between.

Fashion do’s – dress in the colours and cuts that suit you, think about the whole outfit accessories are your friend, go casual when you get a chance, embrace patterns, have fun!

Fashion don’ts – buy things that don’t fit and hope for the best, only ever wear one colour (I’m looking at you people who only wear black), hide yourself under too many layers or in shapeless garments.

Street Cred – I have been wearing clothes for almost 30 years now and I once got an email from Lily Allen’s sister where she offered me a special VIP shopping trip experience when I’m next in London. Okay so I don’t have any formal qualifications but I know what I like and I do have an eye for winning combinations.
