I have recently had the great pleasure of talking to Sandee from Curvenvy, one of my favourite blogs!
I asked Sandee some questions about fashion and here are her answers, in her own words.
Tell me a little about yourself?
I’m from New York, of Haitian decent and I’m a mom. I come from a background in Fashion Public Relations up until I had my daughter. For the past few years, I’ve been working in Academia and I am also a freelance makeup artist.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is very feminine, classic with a bit of eclectic. I vintage and thrift shop a lot and love to mix the old with the current hence my eclectic nature. I adore dresses and skirts and tend to wear them year round. Print and color are a must in my wardrobe as well.

Who are your style icons?
I love Beyonce’s style. Her outfits are uber feminine and she loves showing her legs, as I. I also love Kourtney Kardashian’s style. Her wardrobe consists of a mix of androgynous and feminine pieces which she pulls off effortlessly. Many of her outfits can be work appropriate which I can appreciate. In addition, her maternity wardrobe is exactly what I would sport if I were pregnant.

What items can’t you live without?
I cannot live without my eye lashes. I don’t wear much makeup, so I look to my lashes to awaken my face up giving me this faux bright eyed look. Second to lashes, I cannot live without my concealer and eye shadows. Accessory wise, I cannot go on without a sexy pair of heels. Not only do they elongate my frame, but they instantly make me feel sexy.

What are your favourite places to shop?
I love to shop at thrift and vintage stores. I love the high I get from scoring a ridiculously chic garment at a fraction of the retail price. I tend to do a lot of online shopping specifically at ASOS, Torrid, Zara, Forever 21, etc. What are your fashion do’s or style tips? As a curvy woman, I do think it is crucial to have a body shaper-whether it be Spanx or some other brand. Bodyshapers provide a smooth lump-less silhouette ideal for those body hugging dresses and skirts. Also, every woman should have a pencil skirt. What I love about these kinds of skirts is the structure and how they’re able to provide a sexy look without showing much skin. A good accurately fitting bra can do wonders on a curvy body-often times giving the appearance of a smaller upper body. In addition, every curvy woman should have a good structured blazer, a pair of skinnies, pair of platforms, embellished flats, a detailed scarf, and a nicely cut dress. With these belongings; one can effortlessly put several outfits together.

What are your fashion don’ts?
I really don’t have many fashion don’ts. Of course there are styles and cuts (like babydoll dresses) that I stay clear away from because they do absolutely nothing for my shape. However, that doesn’t mean other curvy women can’t get away with them. CurvEnvy is about positive self perception and self-acceptance. I believe in the power of clothing to revive and/or develop a woman’s confidence and I hope my readers can spot that in every post I make.

From the pictures and from reading her blog you can tell Sandee is bold, beautiful and honest. I found after chatting with her via email she is also incredibly generous with her time and very encouraging. Her outfit choices dare me to be more adventurous, they are always colourful and chic.

Sandee also does fashion tutorials on You Tube and manages to not only give viewers tips to define a look but stays practical about things like budget constraints and versatility.
Finally filed under “things that excite me”, Sandee lives in New York! As a fashion obsessed individual that is my dream, to live in New York and walk around being fabulous (ok so the specifics of the plan need a little work!). Also Sandee and I both turn 30 this year, it’s like we are twins…. haha
